Hey guys, i fixed my 60gb YLOD w/ gilksy's vid. it lasted about 1 month then i did it again. this time i fluxed it and then flowed it. after another month,i just got another YLOD playin uncharted 1 for 15 mins. i barely put in 2 hrs/day of gaming.
Is this a temporary fix or should i sell this and go get a slim? how long has ppl's ps3 lasted after a YLOD fix?!?!?!?
I was thinkin if i should get a 19 blade fan to replace my 15 blad fan, is this worth it?! my ps3 get loud and hot pretty fast

i actually got the YLOD on my 60GB yesterday, right before I popped in Modern Warfare 2.
Sony wants $149 to fix it since my system is out of warranty.
I said the hell with that, so I went out and bought a slim and I'm loving it so far. The slim is much more quiet and also uses up much less power.
If I were you, I'd just go get a slim too, it's really not worth the hassle of trying to fix your 60GB over and over again. Also, people who have sent their PS3's into Sony for repair, usually end up getting the YLOD again anyways.
So yea, get the slim ![]()

yup, you can re-download stuff. it's all tied into your account (PSN ID).
and yes, it may be a hassle to re-download everything, depending on the volume.

What about all the other stuff on your HDD? Like game saves and stuff. Did you just lose those? My 60GB is dying and I kind of want to just buy a slim and stick the 500GB I have in my 60 into the slim but I'm guessing it will have to reformat it?
Update:
Since mid November, i did a few things that are different [costly-ish] to fix the noise. the noise level went down alot, but it is still louder than what it was originally [2 levels higher-you can hear in quiet scenes of movies/games]
what i did:
i did use arctic silver 5
i use washers on those bendable metal plates that keeps the gpu touching the fan
change the fan from 15 blade to 19 blade
also fluxed before reflow
im not sure if all 3 worked or any of it worked, but i've played high demanding games like uncharted2 and MW2 w/o problems so far. hopefully i'll get 10 yrs off of it before ylod happens again. ![]()
I bought my PS3 60G in December 06 and decided to buy the 2 year extended warranty. I was glad I did because it died after about 18 months. The replacement lasted for a little over a year so in February of 2010 I called boned me (Sony) for an exchange. I paid $149..0 + shipping. The jerks only warranty it for 3 months. In early May the YLOD shows up on the *** that they sent in exchange. This is an indication to me that the refurb that they sent did not have a new board or components and was probably reflowed. I call them up and asked about it and they said they were sorry but for another $149 they would exchange it. That's 3 machines in 4 years.
I said screw that and them and called a company that claimed they could fix it for 100.00. So I took a chance and 2 months later the YLOD showed up again. Soooo , they tell me that it cannot be reflowed again and I could either get a refund (less bench charge) or exchange it for a slim.
This is ridiculous. Sony should have been made to issue a product recall or offer a massive discount for the slim in exchange.
My advice is if any of you get the YLOD don't bother paying for a repair. Either exchange it for a slim or dump the platform altogether. 3 machines and nearly $900.00 later I still don't have a working PS3.
