What we would like to see for PlayStation 5

Even though Playstation 5 has not been officially announced, I thought this might be a great time as a community to start thinking about features we would like to see for the next-gen console. We, as gamers, have for a long time had to pick and choose. I like Console X because it has more of the things we like than Console Y. Would it not be better to list things we would like to see(within reason of course) be a part of our gaming experience? I propose we list our reasonable requests and maybe help the developement team make the greatest system. Please only serious and constructive ideas.

1. The top surface should be a "charging pad" for wireless devices and the controler.

2. A customizeable voice interation. When I say "Playstation, Headphone Mode", The system would exicute the complex multi menu selection to put All sound through Headphones. Instead of my having to do it manually. There are any number of settings that could be changed regularly and having the ability to customize a voice prompt would expidite the gaming experience and give users a sense of control.

3. The ability to raise and lower the volume of individual users in Party Chat.

  • The ability to electro shock anyone who says "what would we like to see in the Playstation 5".

  • Would be wonderful to get the PS5 correct the first time around and not need to update hardware shortly later.

Really though, probably be better if PS5 was an online database and games were streamed with no need for a console at all.

  • I would like to see it not be called "Playstation 5". No other console developer has been so unimaginative to simply call their console generations 1, 2,3, 4, etc....

There is ZERO chance of that. They've spent well over a decade and a half building up the brand name to the point where they say "You wanna play Playstation?", that they aren't going to change it. Ever.

  • we? Speak for yourself, I dont' need any of that. #1 MAYBE.... if it would work while off and not rest mode (I turn my things off...), then I wouldn't need yet another stand to charge controllers.

  • As long as they listen to developers and what they want for developing for it I will be happy. PS4 is the top selling console this gen and it's delivered. I will no doubt feel I've gotten my money's worth when the PS5 is released. I heard PS4's original design was altered when developers requested it. I think it might have had to do with the GDDR5. Maybe it went from 6gb to 8gb or something, I'm not sure. Anyways, as long as they play their cards right again I will be happy.

  • CaptainAlbator, you are the one who posted something that is impossible. There is zero chance that they will develop a console that will purposely shock people. They can however decide on a more creative name than "Playstation 5". Nintendo and Xbox were never hurt by the fact that they have never numbered their consoles chronologically. Brand loyalty is not linked to a numbering system.

It would possibly help, if the development team read anything on this user's forum. I sincerely doubt that they do.

It's called "sarcasm", you might want to look into it. Yet, I stand by my point about changing the name. There is ZERO chance of them changing the name. The only way that would happen is they had a console completely tank, and had to reinvent their image and put distance between the last console and the new one, much like what Nintendo is attempting to do yet again. The whole gamer logic idea of "just change it because not changing means it's not advanced", makes little sense. And the excuse of it being "more creative" doesn't work either. All it will do is make everyone say "hey, what happened to the Playstation?".

This is the kind of thinking that leads to things like the new Coke. Change for the mere sake of change, without actually IMPROVING something is never a good idea, especially when it's a well known and much loved brand name. You aren't going to walk into a meeting with Volkswagen and say "Hey guys, I know it's been the best selling vehicle all over the world for over FORTY YEARS, but we need to change the name of the Golf because it's just not 'creative' enough, I want to name it the Super Happy Funtime Car!!". They'd call security to drag you out of the place. I've often said that if "gamers" ran the industry then everyone would be broke inside of six months.

I find that it makes it a whole lot easier to track when each generation was available and in what order.

As for a totally streaming service with no console (as we know it), Sony would lose too many customers due to each individual's internet connection. Some are great, some are good, some okay, some bad and some have no service at all.

That's pretty funny actually, it reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Homer went to work for his brother designing a car. When they unveiled it at the car show it looked like something out of The Jetsons with a bubble dome, fins and a "La Cucaracha" horn sound. Yeah...his brother went backrupt after that.

Anyways, when the PS4 was unveiled they said they enjoyed keeping the numbers and want to see the day when Playstation 8 is released. They seemed very adamant about the whole thing. And I personally like the way PS5 sounds. It's like a science fiction assault rifle or something.

  • how about a statement when the PS5 is released that 2 yrs down the line a PS5 pro model will make it useless...games like the Last Guardian +the Far Harbor expansion with unplayable framerates on a base ps4 are a tragedy

  • For the record, the PS4 has some good game release years left. Hardware power or not, the PS4 exclusive line up is probably going to keep the PS4 going until at least 2020.

So that being said, the PS5 has to have...

    • 4-8k capable hardware. More than 12 GB RAM, 6+ Tflops GPU, etc
    •  A bigger standard HDD. If most of the games are going to be digital (and they obviously will be), then the standard internal HDD has to be much larger than 1 or 2TB
    • This has been mentioned before, but BC with all current PS4 games. The PC architecture of the PS4 makes BC on the PS5 possible and it makes switching for most current gamers easier.
    • PS now has to include all past PS games. Not just PS3. And there has to be a download option.
    • The controller has to have a longer charge.
    • The headphones that are included in all PS5 consoles..can not be a cheap earpiece.
