Refunds for Marvel Heroes Omega???.

As those who play the game know, MHO is closing with next to no warning.

Microsoft has been refunding cash spent on the “Free-to-Play” game for those who request it.  They are returning ALL money spent on the game which has been out for less than a year.

Makes me hope that Sony starts doing the same soon.  Heck....I’d like it if just the $16.50 I have in unspent game currency was refunded.  I spent hundreds of dollars on the game.  Last game I spend money on for an mmo.

  • You already have another thread about this where your refund lie was exposed.

Why did you make another to spread more lies?

Why not ask the developers/publishers of the game for a refund, rather than Sony?  Sony's only involvement with the game is that it plays on their console (the PS4, in this case).

Microsoft is listed as being one of the publishers of the game, which may be why they're providing refunds now.

  • First of all....this was my original post....my double posting occurred because I was not getting any reaction when I hit the “post” button.  I also answered in that post, that I was unaware MS was only doing the last 90 days refund.  So...don’t be so quick to call someone a liar.  Especially when you double posted for probably the same reason.

It also makes more sense now why MS is giving refunds if they were publisher.   Going to Gazillion (the developer) is impossible since they closed their doors and laid off their workforce.

If the company no longer exists then it looks like you're out of luck. Morally you might have a case that Sony offer you a refund as a "gesture of good will", however Sony has no legal obligation to give you a full or even a partial refund on ANYTHING. If anything just be fortunate that you only lost $16.50. You agreed to their terms, and one of those terms was that Gazillion could terminate the game at any time.

I know that there's this feeling that "this is different because it's video games", however it is not. Companies go out of business all the time, and people lose money on their investments. Those are the breaks man.

So you make 90 more threads until people who really dont care about the game or whats happening do react?

  • In no other industry could companies get away with such poor business practices.  I guess the feeling is that because it’s only games, it’s somehow different.  It’s a shame that people dump all this money in online only games, only to have the servers cut off less than 1 year after release.  This is just as shady as no refunds for preorders, for some reason these corporations can crap on us customers without offering any protection or guarantees, “because it’s only games, it’s different!!!”.

Yes, the poor unwashed, downtrodden gamer masses are being exploited by the meanie, greedy, suit wearing corporate poopy heads as you hold out your controller and plead with them "Please sir, I want some more". You've apparently never heard of this place, have you?

  • People's comments on Reddit are not proof of anything.

  • ^^^^ I would normally agree with you about that Violet, but there’s no way that many people are lying about getting a full refund granted from MS.  I read the whole thread and not one person rebutted the claim, that just doesn’t happen on a large public forum like Reddit.

if it’s true (which I have no reason not to believe those posters), this is a good move by MS. There’s nothing wrong with a company admitting they made a mistake by offering a sub-par service and rightfully refunding the customers the money they were duped out of.

  • When I say I want a refund, I’m not asking for cash back...I would just like the money placed back in my account to use on other games...like buying a new game or two and their season passes...Sony wouldn’t be losing a dime, and would show good will towards their loyal customer base.

i think the guy who accused me of making 90 posts (I made 2) might now understand why I did.  Pressing the Post button didn’t seem to do anything, so I pressed it again.  I’m lucky it only posted twice.

But to get back on topic.  It would be nice, but I don’t think Sony will offer anything.  Legally they have no need to...and morally they don’t want to.  Lesson learned...only pay for digital things you KNOW will be around.  No more micro transactions on f2p games on PSN.

  • You've said it yourself. Legally they have no reason to. You can keep screaming in gamer outrage until your blue in the face, stamp your feet, jump through what ever mental hoops you like, make justification after justifcation, and hold your breath until you pass out, most likely you're not getting a refund of any kind. At this point be glad it wasn't more than just the sixteen dollars you lost. And is sixteen dollars really that important to you? Nowhere in the industrialized world does anybody say "if only I had sixteen American dollars, then I would truly live like a rich man".

  • I would buy some lunch today if I had 16 dollars. Just saying...

  • As an FYI, I received a system message from PlayStation.  They will be refunding some money spent over the next few weeks.  From 8/17/2017 to 10/17/2017 will be put back in my account wallet. All money spent after 10/17 will be returned to the card it came from, if possible or else it will be credited to your account wallet as well.

  • Nobody's fault for you spending money on a free to play game. They have the announcement that it will end in the beginig of the year, and have stopped all money transactions, you can still play it. So don't ask for refunds for a game you knew might go away some day.

    @Stingray

In all fairness, everybody should be allowed to always ask for or inquire about a refund, even if they cannot be granted one. It's just the very nature of a consumer. For what it's worth, given the extraordanary circumstances of Marvel Heroes Omega, Sony has been offering refunds automatically to many accounts (if not all) with purchases made in the final 90 days of the game.

Yes, service games can always go away at any point, but there is also an expectation of being able to play content purchased. It isn't a rule persay, but it's a customer service expectation which Sony decided to uphold (at least within the 90 day span).

Also for what it's worth, after making that announcement, Gazillion announced that instead the studio has been shutdown and servers for the game were taken down immediately on 11/27. The game is no longer playable despite the previous announcement it would stay up until the end of the year. It was a real bad situation all-around, and Sony is doing the right thing (in my opinion) by sending out those refund notices.

I think (just my opinion) we as a gaming community should:

a.) Stop shaming people for inquring about refunds yet also...
b.) Stop the mindset that every purchase can be refunded and that the consumer is entitled to every thing they want.

Both companies and consumers need to co-exist and respectable, and fair balance. Customers deserve fair treatment and explanation on what is happening. Companies deserve fair business free from customer exploitations that allow them to function and serve their employees and other customers fairly.

    Just my 2 cents.

  • I got the same notice from Playstation about refunds. Didn't ask for any type of refund but I'm getting one anyway. So for everybody saying "there will be no refunds ", sorry you are wrong. Also, StingrayX check your facts. It shut down 11/27 with NO notice at all, so it is not playable until the end of the year. They even lied about that.
